S.P.E.C.T.R.A.
The Organizational Intelligence Loop: the seven capabilities through which an organization turns signals into action and learning.
Definition
S.P.E.C.T.R.A. is the Organizational Intelligence Loop examined in an Executive Architecture Review: Sense, Process, Evaluate, Choose, Translate, Replicate, Adapt. It describes what intelligence movement is examined, and it is assessed through stage strength and the integrity of the handoffs between stages.
The seven stages
| Stage | Function |
|---|---|
| Sense | Detect operating reality, signals, risks, changes, exceptions and evidence |
| Process | Turn signals into structured, connected, retrievable, usable information |
| Evaluate | Establish meaning, context, implications, risks, options, patterns and uncertainty |
| Choose | Make and own decisions through rights, criteria, thresholds, escalation and judgment |
| Translate | Convert decisions into accountable execution, monitoring, corrective action, evidence and closure |
| Replicate | Preserve reasoning and learning while reproducing capability beyond the current person |
| Adapt | Change architecture, processes, controls, capability, knowledge, thresholds or decision logic based on learning and changing reality |
How the gaps are named
When a stage breaks, the review names the gap: a Sense Gap, a Processing Gap, an Evaluation Gap, Choice Dependency, a Translation Gap, a Replication Gap or an Adaptation Gap.
What S.P.E.C.T.R.A. is not
- It is not seven isolated scores. The strength of each stage and the integrity of the handoffs between stages must both be examined.
- It is not seven new frameworks. It is one loop, examined as one loop.
